Superchunk Cover Ryan Adams' "Come Pick Me Up"

On November 18, Chicago label Bloodshot Records will celebrate their 20th anniversary with a new double CD/triple LP compilation called While No One Was Looking. It features artists covering music from the Bloodshot catalog. It includes Superchunk‘s electrified version of Ryan Adams‘ Heartbreaker highlight “Come Pick Me Up”. That’s it above.

Frontman Mac McCaughan said in a statement, “After going through probably a hundred songs from the Bloodshot catalog we decided to record ‘Come Pick Me Up’ from Heartbreaker. It’s a song I’ve always wanted to cover AND Ryan claims the title came from our album of the same name, so it seemed fitting. Though he may have just been saying that to be nice.”

Other songs on While No One Was Looking include Blitzen Trapper covering Ryan Adams, Hiss Golden Messenger covering Robbie Fulks, Ted Leo covering the Waco Brothers, Into It. Over It. covering Neko Case, Cursive’s Tim Kasher covering the Scotland Yard Gospel Choir, Andrew Bird and Nora O’Connor covering Robbie Fulks, and Sam Fogarino of Interpol covering Charlie Pickett’s “Liked It a Lot”.

On Halloween, McCaughan also kept up Superchunk’s time-honored tradition of delivering a Halloween-themed cover song. This time, McCaughan did “First and Last and Always” by the Sisters of Mercy.
