Swans, tUnE-yArDs, Perfume Genius, Ben Frost, Jamie xx, Grouper, More to Play Big Ears Festival

Big Ears Festival returns to Knoxville, Tennessee from March 27-29. The initial lineup has now been announced.

The 2015 artists-in-residence are the Kronos Quartet, who have tapped a number of guest musicians to collaborate alongside them onstage, including Laurie Anderson, Wilco guitarist Nels Cline, the National guitarist Bryce Dessner, and 2014 Polaris Prize winner Tanya Tagaq. The lineup also features Swans, tUnE-yArDs, Perfume Genius, Ben Frost, Clark, Jamie xx, Grouper, Steve Gunn, Amen Dunes, the Bad Plus, Bill Frisell, Sam Amidon, Caroline Chocolate Drops’ Rhiannon Giddens, Terry & Gyan Riley, Harold Budd and Keith Lowe, Jim Jarmusch’s band SQÜRL, Holly Herndon, A Winged Victory for the Sullen, and Nosaj Thing, among others.

Big Ears will feature installations, exhibitions, film screenings, interactive workshops, talks, surprise collaborations, and more. Max Richter will perform his composition “Vivaldi: The Four Seasons: Recomposed” with the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra. Demdike Stare will perform a “re-score” of the 1922 film Häxan: Witchcraft Through the Ages.
