Teen Opera Singer Jackie Evancho to Play Trump Inauguration

Sixteen-year-old opera singer Jackie Evancho has announced that she will perform “The Star-Spangled Banner” at Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration on January 20, 2017. She revealed the news on “Today” this morning. In addition to Evancho, opera superstar Andrea Bocelli has been rumored to join her (possibly in duet) at the inauguration.

Jackie Evancho rose to fame as a 10-year-old when she competed on “America’s Got Talent.” She finished in second place. Since then, she has performed at the Obamas’ 2010 National Tree Lighting Ceremony and sang opera around the world, including performances with Bocelli. She has also sung the national anthem at several sporting events. Below, watch clips from Evancho’s “Today” appearance, as well as performance videos from throughout her career.

Beyoncé and Kelly Clarkson performed at Barack Obama’s second inauguration in 2013. Aretha Franklin and others performed at Obama’s 2009 inauguration. Previously, Mötley Crüe’s Vince Neil told press he was going to perform at Trump’s inauguration, but later said he was “uninvited.” A Trump advisor also told the BBC that Elton John would play, but John and his manager immediately denied the claim.

Although he was never asked to appear, RiFF RAFF offered to play the inauguration.
