Terrence Malick Details New Movie Song to Song, Featuring Lykke Li, Patti Smith, RHCP, More

Terrence Malick’s next film is titled Song to Song and will feature appearances by Patti Smith, Lykke Li, the Black Lips, Iggy Pop, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and more, as IndieWire reports. Previously called Lawless, and then Weightless, Song to Song takes place in Austin, TX and stars Rooney Mara, Michael Fassbender, Natalie Portman, and Christian Bale as “two entangled couples” that “chase success through a rock ‘n’ roll landscape of seduction and betrayal.” The film is slated for a March 17 release.

Malick has been working on Song to Song for over half a decade now, filming during multiple festivals and shows in Austin as early as 2011. In one scene, Val Kilmer appeared on stage with the Black Lips and took a chainsaw to an amplifier. Arcade Fire, Iron & Wine, and Alan Palomo of Neon Indian all shot scenes for for the film; in a recent interview, Palomo talked about acting alongside Rooney Mara in the movie.
