The Dead Weather Perform "Lose the Right", Alison Mosshart Discusses Lyric Writing

Last month, the Dead Weather debuted a video series where each member of the band explained their instrumental contribution. The series concludes with a video starring lead singer Alison Mosshart, who talks about how she pens lyrics by driving around while writing in a notebook. It seems very dangerous! “Please note that we don’t necessarily condone her unique method, but we trust her and love the results – a lot,” the video’s YouTube description reads. After that, the band performs “Lose the Right” from the recently released Dodge & Burn. In an interview with Billboard, Mosshart talked about the band’s decision to not tour behind the record:

Being on stage is my favorite part of being in a band, so, yes, it’s disappointing to not tour this record right now. But I am patient. Life is brimming with other engagements, none of which suck. This record came about out of nowhere, so when the muse is speaking you listen, you do the work. The traditional ‘release the record and tour for two years’ thing, that’s impossible right now. We all have other commitments but hopefully a clear patch of sky will open up in the not-so-distant future, where we can get out there and perform these songs. I’m not sure if we’ll record another record super-soon or what. If the enthusiasm to do that strikes us, perhaps we will. But at the moment, there is a lot on our plates.

She also said her other band, the Kills, are finishing up a new record.
