The Free Design Featured in Clip From New Documentary Jingle Bell Rocks!

Jingle Bell Rocks! is a new documentary that was directed, written, and produced by Mitchell Kezin. It’s out on DVD, digitally, and on VOD today via Oscilloscope. Subtitled “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree at 33 1/3 RPM”, the film features interviews with mega-fans of Christmas music and tells the stories of some deep holiday cuts. Wayne Coyne, Rev. Run, John Waters, Alan Sparhawk and Mimi Parker of Low, Dr. Demento, Bob Dorough, the Mighty Sparrow, and others, are all featured. Jingle Bell Rocks! is described in a press release as “equal parts social history, pop culture pilgrimage, and revealing character study.”

Today, a clip from the film has been posted on Pitchfork.tv. It features the 1960s/early 1970s psychedelic folk-pop band the Free Design. Their song “(Close Your Mouth) It’s Christmas” is discussed, as is their participation in a 1968 Air Force Christmas album… with an anti-war song.
