The Jacka Killed in Shooting

Bay Area rapper Dominic Newton, aka the Jacka, has died, reports CBS SF Bay Area. He was 37 years old. Newton was the victim of a shooting in East Oakland, California, on Monday night. 

The police have not identified any suspects. 

Newton first came to attention as a member of Mob Figaz, a Bay Area group that was active around the turn of the millennium. He subsequently launched a solo career and released dozens of mixtapes and albums, including the 2005 classic The Jack Artist. Last year, he released What Happened to the World and  Highway Robbery, a collaborative album with Freeway.
