The Lonely Island (the comedy trio of Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, and Jorma Taccone) earned national recognition through their Digital Shorts on “Saturday Night Live.” All three eventually left the NBC program in the early 2010s. Now, the Lonely Island are returning to sketch comedy TV as executive producers of a new Fox show called “Party Over Here,” Entertainment Weekly reports. Set for a March 12 premiere, the half-hour show will feature a combination of pre-taped shorts and in-studio segments.

In addition to the Lonely Island, Paul Scheer (“The League,” “Human Giant”) will also executive-produce “Party Over Here.” Nicole Byer (“Girl Code”), Jessica McKenna (“Riot”), and former “SNL” writer Alison Rich (“Resident Advisors”) will star in the show.

The Lonely Island said in a statement:

When we first conceived this idea, we thought of it as a spin-off of “Empire.” We failed miserably … now it’s much more of a sketch comedy show.

Samberg currently stars in Fox’s sitcom “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.” The Lonely Island last released The Wack Album in 2013.
