The National Donating Merch Profits to Planned Parenthood, ACLU, More

The National are donating the profits from their online store sales (dating back to Black Friday) to four organizations: Planned Parenthood, the American Civil Liberties Union, the Southern Poverty Law Center, and Democracy Now! In a note, the band wrote, “Civil Liberties are not in stone.” They continued, “It’s more important than ever to take action to ensure that none of our voices are silenced and that none of our liberties are obstructed.” Read the National’s full note below, and check out their online store here.

In the leadup to the election, the band’s Matt Berninger was an outspoken supporter of Hillary Clinton. He discussed her candidacy during a “Tavis Smiley” interview, admitted that he was “a little bit in love with Hillary Clinton,” and wrote an anti-Donald Trump song with his group EL VY. The National also performed at one of Clinton’s final rallies in Ohio.
