The National's Bryce Dessner Announces Music for Wood and Strings

The National/Clogs member Bryce Dessner wrote a piece called Music for Wood and Strings that was premiered by Sō Percussion back in 2013. The ensemble have recorded the piece, and the album will be released on CD and digitally on May 18 in the UK and May 19 in North America via Brassland.

Sō Percussion will perform the piece in its entirety on April 27 at BRIC House in Brooklyn. The album will get a vinyl release sometime in the spring.

Another Dessner piece is going to be premiered on May 28 and May 30 by the Los Angeles Philharmonic. It’s called “Quilting” and it will be performed at Walt Disney Concert Hall as part of Next on Grand. “Every quilt has a story,” he said of the piece in a statement. “I’m drawn to their symbolism, the communal aspect, the process by which they’re made.”

As previously reported, Dessner curated “Mountains and Waves: Bryce Dessner and New American Music”, which will take place at Milton Court Concert Hall in London from May 9-10. It’s set to feature music from Dessner, Sufjan Stevens, Richard Reed Parry, Tim Hecker, and others.
