The Roots Enlist Hamilton’s Daveed Diggs, Jidenna, More for Basketball Musical

The Roots have assembled a star-studded cast for an NBA-themed musical, which they’ll perform before this year’s All-Star Game in New Orleans, Billboard reports. With music composed by the band, The Evolution of Greatness will tell the NBA’s history since the 1950s and feature Hamilton actor Daveed Diggs, DJ Jazzy Jeff, actor Michael B. Jordan, Jidenna, and Run D.M.C.’s Darryl McDaniels. As well as that, DJ Khaled will soundtrack the three-point shootout contest on Saturday night after DNCE kicks off the weekend’s celebrations with a medley. Jon Batiste launches Sunday’s game with renditions of the U.S. and Canadian national anthems.
