The Strokes Announce New EP Future Present Past
The Strokes have announced a new EP called Future Present Past, their first new material since 2013′s Comedown Machine. The record is out June 3 via Julian Casablancas’ Cult Records, and will be available as a digital download and a 10″. (The Strokes also headline the Governors Ball festival in NYC on June 3.) Earlier today, Casablancas debuted the album’s first single, “OBLIVIUS,” on his new Sirius XM show. The EP contains three songs: “Drag Queen,” “OBLIVIUS,” and “Threat of Joy.” Find the EP art below. It will also come with a remix of “OBLIVIUS” from the band’s Fab Moretti. The band recorded the EP in New York and Austin over the past year with producer Gus Oberg. A press release states that “the Strokes are currently at work on new material.” The whole EP will stream later today on Cult’s website. The EP announce was accompanied by a goofy nine-minute long video, “A Conversation With the Strokes,” featuring an interview recorded with the band before their SXSW set earlier this year. The band chatted about the Super Bowl, playing basketball with President Obama, and more. Moretti also reveals that his girlfriend got the Zika virus while they were on a recent trip to Brazil. Last night, Strokes billboards appeared in London and New York. In the videos, a figure runs as the words “Future,” “Present,” and “Past” appear on screen. Casablancas’ label Cult Records, which posted one of the billboard videos, has also updated its site to include the Strokes’ logo and the hashtag #FuturePresentPast.
In addition to Governors Ball, the Strokes will also play the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York on May 31.
A Strokes / Cult Records pop up shop will be open for a week from May 30 through June 5 at 352 Bowery in Manhattan. “DJ sets from special guests to be announced shortly,” a press release states.
