“The Voice” Singer Christina Grimmie Shot and Killed at Concert

Christina Grimmie, a contestant on the sixth season of NBC’s “The Voice,” was shot and killed at an Orlando, Florida concert venue yesterday, AP reports. Grimmie, a New Jersey native, was performing with the band Before You Exit at the Plaza Live. She was signing autographs for fans after the show when the gunman opened fire and shot Grimmie. She died from her injuries at a local hospital early Saturday morning, Reuters reports. Grimmie’s brother tackled the gunman, who shot and killed himself in the struggle. Police credited Grimmie’s brother with preventing the gunman from harming other people in attendance. Grimmie initially found fame covering hit songs on her YouTube channel. She came in third place on “The Voice,” competing on Adam Levine’s team. “I’m sad, shocked, and confused,” Levine wrote on Instagram. “We love you so much Grimmie.” Her last message on Twitter was a video urging fans to attend the Orlando concert. She was 22. Update (6/11, 4:50 p.m.): The Orlando Police Department have shared information about the gunman. Kevin James Loibl, 27, traveled from a St. Petersburg, Fla. and was carrying two loaded handguns, ammunition, and a hunting knife. Orlando police shared a photograph, as well.

We are heartbroken. @TheRealGrimmie is a loved member of our family. Our thoughts are with her and her family. #PrayForChristina
