Tom Waits appeared on tonight’s episode of “Late Show With David Letterman”, performing a new song called “Take One Last Look” (“This one’s for you, Dave, he said”). He was also interviewed by Letterman, and discussed long lines at salad bars, antiperspirant, and his long history of appearing on the show. George Clooney, the other guest that night, was there for the interview as well, chained to Letterman by handcuffs.

David Letterman’s final night as host of the “Late Show” is next Wednesday, May 20. (He’ll be replaced by Stephen Colbert.)

“I don’t know when I will see Dave again,” Waits said on his website. “I guess from now on we’ll have to settle for bumping into each other at pilates.”

Waits has made 10 appearances on “Letterman”, dating back to 1983, when Letterman hosted his show on NBC. Unlike most musical guests, Waits would often sit down for an interview after performing. Below, watch some of those appearances. And read our recent Pitch post on Letterman’s musical legacy.
