tUnE-yArDs Share Stop-Motion "Rocking Chair" Video

tUnE-yArDs‘ Merrill Garbus has shared the video for the Nikki Nack track “Rocking Chair”, featuring Sam Amidon. Created by artist and past tUnE-yArDs collaborator Sarah Pupo, it’s a colorful, kaleidoscopic stop motion animation that creates and unravels numerous scenes and images, not unlike a Rorschach test. Check it out below.

Here’s what Pupo had to say about the video in a press release:

This beat and feeling of being held and grieving are what I tried to capture in the animation through both abstract and figurative imagery. Stop motion animation techniques allowed me to improvise a mish-mash of cut paper symbols, patterns, shapes and characters in different layers and combinations. And, because I was working from Merrill’s music, I couldn’t help but integrate lots of vivid colour and rich dissonance. It was a great pleasure to make.
