UK Home Office Explains Tyler, The Creator Visa Denial

Yesterday, Tyler, the Creator‘s manager posted a statement on Tumblr explaining that Tyler had been banned from entering the UK for three to five years on the basis of his lyrical content. Now, the UK Home Office has elaborated on the visa denial, claiming Tyler’s presence is “not conducive to the public good” (via the Quietus). Coming to the UK is a privilege, and we expect those who come here to respect our shared values. The Home Secretary has the power to exclude an individual if she considers that his or her presence in the UK is not conducive to the public good or if their exclusion is justified on public policy grounds.

Earlier this summer, Tyler canceled his Australian tour following pressure from feminist group Collective Shout, who campaigned for the government to reject Tyler’s visa application on the basis of his lyrical content, as well as his behavior during past tours.
