Vic Mensa Protests at Standing Rock

Recently, Vic Mensa went to the Standing Rock Reservation to join with protestors against the construction of the North Dakota Access Pipeline. In a series of videos and posts, Mensa gives some background about the situation, expresses his solidarity with the movement, and describes some of the violence against #NoDAPL protestors. In one of the videos, he says that he will return to the Reservation on December 4, and encourages fans to join him. Watch the videos, and see his posts, below.

Sacred Bones Records has also joined in the #NoDAPL protest. Yesterday, the label announced that its entire Bandcamp catalog will be available as “pay-what-you-want” until December 4, and all proceeds will benefit the Standing Rock protestors. The label’s catalog includes music from Jenny Hval, Zola Jesus, Marching Church, Lust for Youth, John Carpenter, the Men, and many more.

Earlier this month, Neil Young performed at Standing Rock on his 71st birthday. He later penned a powerful statement about the protestors, Donald Trump, and more.

Vic Mensa and Sacred Bones are among the many artists and labels who are donating to charity and participating in activism. See more examples of artists giving back here.
