Watch Andrew Bird, John C. Reilly Play Acoustic Living Room Set

Recently, Andrew Bird began a new series called “Live From the Great Room,” where he and guests perform an acoustic set in his living room. Blake Mills joined Bird for the debut episode. Today, Bird held the second installment, which featured John C. Reilly (Boogie NightsStep Brothers) and Tom Brosseau. The trio played folk songs and talked about their love of the genre. They performed “Weary Lonesome Blues,” “Cathedrals” (by the Handsome Family), “Careless Love,” “I’m a Stern Old Bachelor,” and “The New Saint Jude” (from Bird’s latest album Are You Serious). Reilly wore a cowboy hat and a scarf while Bird went barefoot. Watch the 34-minute video of their performance below.

Reilly and Brosseau have collaborated in the past. Last year, Brosseau joined the actor’s band John Reilly & Friends on tour. (Bird played with the Friends for a stop on the tour.) In 2011, they covered country classics “Gonna Lay Down My Old Guitar” and “Lonesome Yodel Blues #2” for Third Man Records.

Andrew Bird will host two “Live From the Great Room” episodes next week. One will feature My Morning Jacket’s Jim James. Mandolinist Chris Thile will be Bird’s guest on the other episode.
