Watch Animal Collective Record Their New EP in the Brazilian Rainforest

Last year, Animal Collective recorded the entirety of their recent Meeting of the Waters EP live in the Brazilian rainforest. A new Viceland documentary series called “Earthworks” captures Geologist, Avey Tare, and sound engineer Sonny Diperri in the process of creating the project. As they journey down the Amazon River, the band also speaks on the region’s deforestation problem. Geologist explained that his choice in location was driven by Animal Collective’s affinity for sampling: “Both [Avey Tare] and I, we’ve used field recordings in our music maybe even before we were called Animal Collective. And so I kind of wanted to come down to a place where the idea of recording natural sounds would be something I could highlight.” Check it out below. 

The next two episodes of “Earthworks” will feature Miguel visiting avocado and butterfly farms in Mexico and Local Natives trekking the Colorado River, reports Noisey.

Animal Collective’s Meeting of the Waters was released on this year’s Record Store Day on 12” vinyl. They are currently on tour behind their latest LP, Painting With.
