Watch John Lydon Talk to Conan About Becoming an American Citizen “Because I Believed in Obama”

Last night, John Lydon made an appearance on “Conan” to promote his new book, Mr. Rotten’s Songbook. The Sex Pistols and Public Image Ltd frontman discussed the book—which he illustrated—as well as his infamous butter ads and becoming an American citizen in support of Barack Obama’s presidency. “Because this is a really new country,” he said, “you have every opportunity not to make the mistakes [of] all of those other old ones I come from.” He also put forward his new nom-de-guerre: Donut Bump. Check out clips from the interview below.

Lydon said:

I [became an American] because I believed in Barack Obama, and I thought that that was the way forward. His healthcare thing didn’t quite work out what we all want, but there is a great potential there. Now we’re looking at dismantling and, you know, [a] crazy loony monster party.
