Watch Patti Smith in New Clip From Terrence Malick’s Song to Song

Terrence Malick’s new film about the Austin, Texas music scene, Song to Song, premieres today at SXSW. The movie features a number of musicians, including Lykke Li, Patti Smith, Iggy Pop, Tegan and Sara, Alan Palomo, and Diplo, to name a few. Below, watch a clip from the film starring Patti Smith (via Rolling Stone). In the excerpt, Smith gives career and life advice to Rooney Mara, who plays a young indie rocker. In addition to her role in the film, Patti Smith also contributed an unreleased song called “God Running.”

Song to Song is about two couples (Rooney Mara/Ryan Gosling, Natalie Portman/Michael Fassbender) who “chase success through a rock‘n’roll landscape of seduction and betrayal.” It hits theaters in New York and Los Angeles on March 17.
