Watch the Notorious B.I.G.’s Jersey Number Get Retired at Brooklyn Nets “Biggie Night”

The 20-year anniversary of the Notorious B.I.G.’s passing was on Thursday, March 9. Tonight, at the Brooklyn Nets’ game against the New York Knicks at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, the late rapper was honored with “Biggie Night,” featuring a special halftime ceremony featuring Puff Daddy. At the end, a banner retiring the jersey number 72 was unveiled, featuring a lyric from “Juicy”: “Spread love, it’s the Brooklyn way.” (Smalls rocks the jersey in the iconic video for the song—he was also born in 1972.) Check out video from the halftime event below. The banner will hang permanently at Barclays Center.

On March 9, numerous artists including Puff, Nas, Missy Elliott, and more shared tributes to Biggie Smalls. Read Pitchfork’s new reviews of Biggie’s Ready to DieLife After Death, and Born Again, as well as Puffy Daddy & The Family’s No Way Out.
