Whitney Houston and Clive Davis Docs, Film Scored By The National’s Bryce Dessner Premiere at Tribeca 2017

This year’s Tribeca Film Festival takes place April 19 through 30. Among the films premiering are new documentaries on Whitney Houston and Clive Davis. Whitney: Can I Be Me was directed by Nick Broomfield (Kurt and CourtneyBiggie and Tupac) and explores Houston’s life and career, including rare footage. It is also set to air on Showtime later this year. Clive Davis: The Soundtrack of Our Lives, a documentary directed by Chris Perkel and based on Davis’ 2013 autobiography, will also premiere at the festival. It’s set to explore Davis’ career in the music industry, signing and working with artists such as Bruce Springsteen, Lou Reed, Patti Smith, Whitney Houston, and more. After the documentary’s premiere, artists including Aretha Franklin, Jennifer Hudson, and Earth, Wind & Fire will perform a celebratory concert.

The National’s Bryce Dessner will score The Death And Life of Marsha P. Johnson, a David France-directed film about the transgender activist who instigated the Stonewall Riots of 1969 and is credited with helping to spearhead the modern gay civil rights movement. Also premiering is When God Sleeps, a new film about Iranian rapper Shanin Najafi.
