Wu-Tang Clan Explain Why Their Remix to Drake's "Wu-Tang Forever" Never Materialized

On last year’s Nothing Was the Same, Drake included a song called “Wu-Tang Forever” that sounded decidedly not like a Wu-Tang Clan song. The beat was soft; the lyrics were about his feelings. Still, a remix featuring the Wu was reported to be in the works. But then… nothing.

Now, the group has explained what happened, in an interview with MTV News that you can watch below.

RZA said that the group recorded verses for a remix while on tour in Europe, but that it didn’t come together. According to U-God, the subject matter may have been to blame.

“I guess we kind of came too hard for him. He wanted us to talk about broads, but at that time, we wasn’t in a broad mode,” he told MTV News. “We had to write it real fast. No lie, I probably had about six hours to write this thing. At the time, I wasn’t feeling woman-y—I was feeling hard as nails. So, I wrote him a hard as nail rhyme, and he was talking about something totally different, so the subject matter didn’t really mesh.”

But there seems to be no love lost. As Ghostface put it, “I like [Drake] because he pays homage. But at the end of the day, he knows how to rhyme. He’s not weak.”
