Young Fathers Win the Mercury Prize

The Scottish hip-hop group Young Fathers have won this year’s Barclaycard Mercury Prize for their debut album Dead, BBC News reports. They won the award, which honors the best British album of the past year, over albums by FKA twigs, Damon Albarn, Bombay Bicycle Club, Anna Calvi, and others.

The Mercury Prize is chosen each year by a panel of British music critics and industry folks. Last year’s winner was James Blake. Previous winners have included PJ Harvey, the xx, Pulp, Portishead, Arctic Monkeys, Antony and the Johnsons, Franz Ferdinand, and more.
