Zane Lowe Leaving BBC Radio 1 to Join Apple

Zane Lowe has announced that he will be leaving BBC Radio 1 this spring after 12 pivotal years at the radio station in order to join up with Apple, Billboard reports. March 5 will be his last day of broadcasting; fellow DJ Annie Mac will occupy his slot moving forward.  “I want to thank everyone at Radio 1 for their support and friendship,” Lowe said in a statement. “The station has allowed me to share incredible music with the country’s best music fans.” The specifics of Lowe’s forthcoming work with Apple has yet to be revealed.

Since joining BBC Radio 1 in 2003, Lowe has interviewed some of music’s biggest names, including Rick Rubin, Kanye West, and many more. One recurring segment, “Versus”, had Lowe facing off with musicians like like Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig to create a collaborative, competitive playlist. Recently, he also curated a new soundtrack for the cult classic Drive, including the likes of Chvrches, Foals, SBTRKT, Jon Hopkins, and more.
