Jay-Z Bids on Music Streaming Company

Jay Z has bid $56 million on Aspiro, a Swedish company behind two music streaming services, WiMP and Tidal, The New York Times reports. His offer has already received preliminary acceptance from Aspiro’s board. WiMP and Tidal stream high-fidelity audio, as the Times points out, which places them in the same market as Neil Young’s Pono player and Sony’s luxury Walkman. Missy Elliott will join Katy Perry during this Sunday’s Super Bowl XLIX halftime show, as the Associated Press reports. At a press conference on Thursday, Perry said an “old school” female singer would show up. “When you hear the first ring of the chord, I think jaws will drop and faces will melt,” she said.  Elliott and Perry previously collaborated on the remix for “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)”. Yesterday, Beach Boys mastermind Brian Wilson announced No Pier Pressure, his newest studio album, which is set to feature contributions from She & Him and Kacey Musgraves, among others.
