Alleged Sexual Assault by PWR BTTM’s Ben Hopkins Described in New Interview

An anonymous woman has given an interview to Jezebel describing an alleged sexual assault by Ben Hopkins of PWR BTTM, adding to allegations of predatory behavior that have been circulating over the past two days. The woman, who Jezebel has given the pseudonym of “Jen,” claims that Hopkins “made sexually aggressive advances and started having sex with her without permission while also refusing to wear protection,” according to Jezebel. “Later, while she was asleep, Jen said she woke up to Hopkins trying to have sex with her again.” She also claimed that Hopkins assaulted her a second time a month after the first incident.

Jen told Jezebel that PWR BTTM’s claim in their initial statement that “these allegations are shocking to us” is not true. She said PWR BTTM member Liv Bruce contacted her earlier this year and was well aware of her story. She told Jezebel, “The statement that they made, I know for a fact, is an actual lie because I know they did know. The statement they made is 100 percent false.”

Representatives for PWR BTTM have not responded to Pitchfork’s requests for comment.

The fallout of the allegations against Hopkins has included two touring members of PWR BTTM distancing themselves from the band, all of the opening acts pulling out of their upcoming tour, and the band being dropped by their management company. Their record release show, set to take place tonight at Rough Trade in Brooklyn, has been canceled.
