Arca Premieres Mutant Tracks, Chats With Benji B on BBC Radio 1

Arca has already shared a few tracks (including “Vanity”, “EN”, and “Soichiro”) from his forthcoming album Mutant. Tonight, he stopped by Benji B’s BBC Radio 1 show to preview more tracks from the album, including “Faggot”, “Snakes”, “Front Load”, “Gratitude”, and more. He also discussed the album and played a few non-Arca records. Listen below.

“I had no plan or ambition to make another record one year after the previous one, but it just kind of happened spontaneously,” he said. He explained that Mutant is “about celebration” and is “a lot more social” than Xen. He says it features several reflections of his friends and the people he loves.

He also discussed why he would use such a “hurtful word” as the title of the song “Faggot”. “I’m proud of being a faggot,” he explained. He also said that the title “Snakes” is a nod to Björk.

Arca also talked about how much he loved collaborating with Kelela, his experience working on Vulnicura with Björk, and how his live performances with Jesse Kanda changed the way he approaches his work.

Mutant is out November 20 via Mute. Read our Update interview with Arca.
