Beyoncé’s Lemonade Shut Out of Three Emmys, But She Could Still Win One

This past weekend, the Creative Arts Emmy Awards took place at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. The two-day show “focused primarily on key technical disciplines and behind-the-scenes crafts of television production.” Beyoncé’s Lemonade visual album was nominated for four Emmys, three of which qualified for the Creative Arts Emmys. She did not win any of those three awards. The award for Outstanding Production Design for a Variety, Nonfiction, Event or Award Special went to the team behind Grease: Live; John Oliver’s “Last Week Tonight” team won Outstanding Picture Editing for Variety Programming for a segment on public defenders; and James Corden’s The Late Late Show Carpool CBS Karaoke Primetime Special took home Outstanding Variety Special–a category that also included “Adele Live in New York City.” See the rest of the Creative Arts Emmy Awards winners here and here. The Creative Arts Emmys will air on FXX on Saturday, September 17 at 8 p.m. Eastern.

Although Beyoncé left the Creative Arts Emmys without any hardware, she still has a chance to win an award at the Primetime Emmys, which take place Sunday, September 18. She and Kahlil Joseph are up for Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special. Lemonade will face Adele’s NYC special, as well as the 58th Grammy Awards, Grease: Live, and more in the category.
