Blur’s Dave Rowntree Elected to County Council

Blur drummer Dave Rowntree has been elected to Norwich County Council in England, running as a member of the Labour Party. He won 59% of the votes cast in the election, telling the BBC that he was “genuinely humbled to be elected as a councillor,” and explaining that his band duties would not get in the way of his political career. “Blur are not doing anything this year as a band. We tend to do things when something interesting comes along,” Rowntree said. “No one else from Blur is running for county council but you never know. We are an unpredictable lot.” Rowntree has run for office in the past, unsuccessfully running for council and parliament seats. Blur’s last album The Magic Whip was released in 2015, and marked the group’s first full-length since 2003.
