Justin Timberlake, the star of Demme’s 2016 concert film Justin Timberlake + the Tennessee Kids, posted a lengthy message about Demme’s impact. “You, master of humanity. You, genius of storytelling. You, generous and warm man. You, special soul,” he wrote. “You taught me so much about life and art and about standing up for what you believe.”

David Byrne also penned a eulogy for Demme, who directed the Talking Heads’ 1984 concert film Stop Making Sense.
