Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau Once Randomly Tweeted That He Hates Paul Simon

Justin Trudeau, the well-liked Canadian Prime Minister and celebrity boxing champion, has some serious opinions about Simon & Garfunkel, as Noisey points out. In a recently resurfaced tweet from 2012, Trudeau (who was at the time a member of the Canadian Parliament) wrote, “For the record: I, and my entire staff, despise Paul Simon.” He doubled down on the claim with the unwieldy (and misspelled) hashtag, “#garfunkleallthe way.” What in particular he had against Simon was unclear, as was his motivation for the Tweet.

In a 2016 NPR interview, Simon squashed any hopes for any future S&G reunion: “The fact is we did do two big reunions, and we’re done. There’s nothing really much to say. You know, the music essentially stopped in 1970.”

Paul Simon is set to perform with yMusic at Bon Iver and The National’s Eaux Claires Festival this year; Justin Trudeau will likely not be in attendance.

Last year, Trudeau gave a gushing interview about his appreciation for the Tragically Hip—a band “anchored in Canada, in so many ways”–on the occasion of their final show.
