Chance the Rapper, Donnie Trumpet and the Social Experiment Share "Nothing Came to Me" Short Starring Cara Delevingne

Chance the Rapper is in a band called the Social Experiment, which features Chance, Donnie Trumpet (aka Nico Segal), Peter Cottontale, and Nate Fox. Their record Surf is forthcoming. In the meantime, they’ve shared a video called “Nothing Came to Me”. It’s a silent film that’s under 90 seconds long, and it’s scored by a Social Experiment instrumental.

The short was directed by Jake Schreier and stars Cara Delevingne. Chance is listed as the “events coordinator” in the credits. Segal shared a statement clarifying that this is the full video, not just a preview.

“Nothing came to me” is a short film written by Francis And The Lights and scored by Donnie Trumpet & The Social Experiment. Working with Francis so often on the SURF project, we always bounce ideas. I was already putting together “Nothing Came To Me” when the band decided it was kinda like a movie score. So I started with one pass of a melody. I wanted to display as many possible emotions by recording different layers so I played moving chordal horns under the melody. The last layer was done on the euphonium by my friend John Paul Floyd to fill the lower feel of bass. Cara got the script from Dir. Jake Schreier who made one of my favorite movies, Robot & Frank. It’s kinda like backwards scoring you feel me?
