Common to Star in RZA-Produced Show “Black Samurai”

Common is set to star in “Black Samurai,” a television adaptation of Marc Olden’s novels that also inspired the 1977 Black Samurai film, Variety reports. He’ll play the show’s protagonist Robert Sand—a ex-military officer turned samurai master out for vengeance. Common most recently appeared in Barbershop: The Next Cut and “The Wiz Live!” and will star in DC Comics’ Suicide Squad later this year. The series is going to be executive produced by RZA. Previously, RZA was behind the 2007 soundtrack to the animated series “Afro Samurai” and its subsequent film Afro Samurai Resurrection. RZA is currently working with Paul Banks of Interpol on a project called Banks & Steelz.
