Remember Daphne and Celeste? Back in 2000, they released the singles “U.G.L.Y.” and “Ooh Stick You” which were centered around schoolyard taunts. Not long after, they broke up. They’re back together with their first release in 15 years. Max Tundra has produced their comeback single “You and I Alone”. Watch the Seaquences-directed video for the track below.

The single is available now on iTunes and as a 7″ via Balatonic. Find the lyrics here.

Back in 2000, the duo delivered a cheerful performance at Reading in 2000 to an antagonistic, bottle throwing crowd. Karen DiConcetto (aka Daphne) shouting, “I’m loving the signs! ‘Die!’ Yes, I will!” is the stuff of legend.

Aside from a batch of archival recordings that surfaced in 2013, this is also the first bit of new music from Max Tundra in a while. His last studio album Parallax Error Beheads You was released in 2008.

The Guardian has an feature on the duo and Max Tundra’s return. Apparently, the track was recorded four years ago. DiConcetto said of the new track, “It felt like the grownup version of Daphne and Celeste. A cooler sound, but also a shout out to our past.”

The producer explained that he was fascinated by their “U.G.L.Y.” video and contacted them via Twitter to orchestrate a reunion. “It would have been easier to pick someone really respected like Charlotte Gainsbourg,” he said, “but this was more of a challenge, taking a band people were chucking bottles of piss at.” Read the full feature here.

Daphne and Celeste told The Guardian that they’re interested in performing live again.
