David Bowie Statue Seeks Funding

A commemorative David Bowie statue is set to go up in Aylesbury, the town just north of London where Bowie debuted Hunky Dory and Ziggy Stardust songs. A Kickstarter campaign is seeking £100,000 ($123,000) in funding for the project, which organizers say has been approved by the local council. The weathered bronze statue, by sculptor Andrew Sinclair, would appear in the Market Square, which Bowie referenced in the opening lines of “Five Years.” Above its head, organizers intend to install a soundsystem that would play a Bowie song on the hour throughout the daytime and evening.

To celebrate the campaign, HOLY HOLY, featuring Bowie associates Tony Visconti, Woody Woodmansey, and Heaven 17’s Glenn Gregory, will play a set of Bowie covers at Friars Aylesbury (where the above picture was taken) on April 3, 2017.
