Deerhunter’s Bradford Cox Plays Jesus Christ in New Mick Rock Documentary

Shot! The Psycho-Spiritual Mantra of Rock is a forthcoming documentary on music photographer Mick Rock, out April 7 in theaters and on Amazon/iTunes. The film, which premiered at last year’s Tribeca Film Festival, features a slew of artists, including Father John Misty and Karen O. One cameo is particularly special: In a brief sequence to illustrate an acid flashback, Deerhunter frontman Bradford Cox appears as Jesus Christ, hanging from a cross wearing a crown of thorns and not much else. Check out a still from that segment below.

Elsewhere in the film, TV on the Radio’s Tunde Adebimpe plays the R&B singer Sir Mack Rice, whom Rock shot when under the influence of cocaine. Shot! also features never-before-seen footage of Bowie backstage during the Ziggy Stardust years and footage of Syd Barrett during an acid trip. Find the trailer for the new film below, and see some of that aforementioned Bowie footage below as well.
