DIIV’s Zachary Cole Smith Checks Into “Long-Haul Inpatient Treatment”

DIIV’s Zachary Cole Smith has announced that he has checked himself into “long-haul inpatient treatment” in a note posted to his Instagram. “So i guess now is the time for me to stop kidding myself, and everybody else,” it reads. “I’ve taken this road way past the point of sanity and fucked with way too many people. See you all on the other side, I love you forever, you know who yous are.” Find the full note below. Pitchfork has reached out to Smith’s representatives for further comment.

Smith has publicly struggled with drug use in the past. He was arrested in September 2013 on misdemeanor charges of criminal possession of a controlled substance. In an interview with Pitchfork, Smith talked about checking himself into rehab for 12 days and noted that songs on DIIV’s album Is the Is Are were written about his struggle with heroin. “When I see kids with no experience with anything talking about ‘Dopamine’ as a heroin record, I want it to be a cautionary tale,” he said. “Look at the words. Look at what happened to me.”
