Dr. Dre Threatens Legal Action Against Sony Over Upcoming Michel'le Film

Dr. Dre is threatening legal action against Sony Pictures if they release the upcoming film Surviving Compton: Dre, Suge & Me, TMZ reports. Produced by Sony Pictures Television and Thinkfactory Media, the film is a biopic about R&B singer Michel’le, Dr. Dre’s former fiancée and mother of one of his sons. The film in part depicts the reportedly abusive parts of their relationship.

Dre’s legal team has sent Sony a cease desist letter, saying “Dre flatly denies ever abusing Michel’le,” and will seek legal action if the film is released. TMZ reports that the letter sent to Sony Pictures also claims Michel’le “never sought medical treatment or filed a police report” during their relationship.

After the release of  N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton, Michel’le criticized the film, saying that “it ignores several of N.W.A.’s own harsh realities.” Last year, Dre released a public apology for his abusive past, which Michel’le later rebuked.

Lifetime plans to air the film on October 15.
