Edward Grimes of Rachel’s Dead at 43

Edward Grimes—a Louisville, Kentucky-based musician who played drums in the band Rachel’s—has died. A representative from the label Karate Body Records, who released albums by Grimes’ band Seluah, confirmed the news to Pitchfork. He was 43. Grimes became a member of Rachel’s—the post-rock/experimental chamber music outfit from Louisville—in time to play on their third album, 1996’s The Sea and the Bells. He remained a member of the band until 2003’s Systems/Layers. Grimes also played in Per Mission and Shipping News alongside his Rachel’s bandmate Jason Noble. (Noble died of cancer in 2012.) In 2002, Grimes started Seluah. They released their debut EP in 2002, which was followed by a pair of albums in 2012 and 2015.
