Father John Misty Says He Turned Down an Audition for “Stranger Things”

In a new interview with Rolling StoneFather John Misty discusses a wide variety of topics, including his new album Pure Comedy and his appreciation for LSD. He also reveals that he once turned down an audition for the massively popular Netflix series “Stranger Things,” as Stereogum points out. Asked about the temptation of a major label, he mentioned, “There are many other things I’ve said no to. I was asked to audition for the second season of ‘Stranger Things.’” He continued, “I didn’t want that level of exposure. I don’t want to be TV famous.” Read the full story here.

Elsewhere in the piece, he continued his discussion of pop music (“Artists need to consider whether they can live with themselves if they’re just singing about breakups and whatever”), and stopped himself before comparing his “SNL” performances to Lorde’s the following week. He explained, “I’m not going to get into this because the headlines when it gets picked up will be ‘Father John Talks About Lorde’ and then a picture of me in earbuds screaming next to a picture of her where she’s like, ‘Huh?’”

Pure Comedy is out April 7 via Sub Pop/Bella Union. It includes the previously shared songs “Ballad of the Dying Man,” “Two Wildly Different Perspectives,” “Total Entertainment Forever,” and “Leaving LA.” The Misty-less second season of “Stranger Things” is set to premiere on Halloween.
