Members of Midlake, Grandaddy, Band of Horses, Franz Ferdinand, and Travis have teamed up to form Banquet, a new band currently at work on their debut LP, as The Dallas Observer reports.

The band is composed of Midlake’s Eric Pulido, McKenzie Smith, Joey McClellan, and Jesse Chandler, plus Band of Horses’ Ben Bridwell, Franz Ferdinand’s Alex Kapranos, Grandaddy’s Jason Lytle, and Travis’ Fran Healy. Volume I, their debut LP, is being aimed for a 2016 release.

The band was originated by the Midlake members. Pulido told the Observer that he got the ball rolling by e-mailing several musicians about joining a collaborative group, which resulted in Banquet. “I was surprised people said yes,” he told the Observer.

The album was recorded in Denton, Texas, with Lytle and Healy joining the Midlake members in person as Bridwell and Kapranos worked remotely.

“To tell you the truth, I’m a little mystified what the whole thing is myself, which is fine,” Lytle told the Observer. “I was asked to contribute however I felt like. I had a couple of songs that were just floating around and didn’t have a home in my own catalog and thought it’d be a good opportunity to use them for this Banquet thing.”

Pulido also told the Observer that he wants to enlist Rufus Wainwright, Norah Jones, and John Grant for what would be Banquet’s Volume II
