On last year’s Record Store Day, XL released Nothing New, a series of Gil Scott-Heron songs recorded with Richard Russell in the late 2000s. To mark what would’ve been the man’s 66th birthday, the compilation has been released on iTunes. It comes with a huge bonus, too: A documentary called Who Is Gil Scott-Heron?.

The film was directed by Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard, the filmmakers behind the Nick Cave film 20,000 Days on Earth. A 10-minute excerpt is available to watch here. Screenings will take place soon.

Listen to the Nothing New track “Pieces of a Man” below.
