Jack Antonoff Enlists Bon Iver, Lady Gaga, Grimes, St. Vincent, More to Fight Anti-LGBTQ Legislation in Texas

Jack Antonoff of Bleachers and fun. has gathered a bunch of musicians and celebrities to send an open letter to Texas legislators, Billboard reports. The letter is notifying lawmakers that the creative community is “deeply troubled” by legislation that targets the LGBTQ community. Specifically mentioned are Texas’ “bathroom bill” and another bill that would force teachers to out students to their parents. Antonoff is urging people to contact Texas representatives. Bon Iver, Grimes, St. Vincent, Janelle Monáe, Grizzly Bear, Wilco, and Lady Gaga are among the artists who signed the letter. Find more info here.

In an interview with Billboard, Antonoff discussed the need for the creative community to speak out against bills like the ones addressed in the letter. “We all have to stand up, even if we’re not from Texas, or LGBTQ—we all have to say that this isn’t OK with us,” he said. “And I hope the level of talent on this list opens people’s eyes, and particularly that local legislators will realize how important this is—to the people living in Texas and to the people coming in and bringing a lot of money to the economy.”
