Jay-Z & Kanye West, Frank Ocean Sued for Copyright Infringement

Jay Z, Kanye West, and Frank Ocean have been hit with a $3 million lawsuit in relation to their excellent 2011 album Watch the Throne. New York musician Joel McDonald claims that the rappers’ “Made in America” (which features Ocean on the hook) lifts from a song he penned in 2009 of the same name, as XXL reports.

This isn’t the first time the superstars have headed to court over their collaborative blockbuster. In 2011, soul singer Syl Johnson, sued the duo for use of a sample of one of his songs, “Different Strokes” without proper clearance in their track “The Joy”. That case was later settled. More recently, Jay- Z was sued for $600 million in damages over his applications for the Brooklyn Nets’ trademark.

Below, stream the rappers’ “Made in America”, along with McDonald’s song of the same name.
