Jay Z Producing Lin-Manuel Miranda’s In the Heights Movie
Jay Z will co-produce a film adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Tony-winning musical In the Heights, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Harvey Weinstein made the announcement during his annual pre-Oscars gala. (Jay has a first-look deal with the Weinstein Company.) In the Heights is set in New York City’s Washington Heights and features a wide variety of musical styles, including hip-hop, salsa, and merengue. In an interview with Variety last year, Miranda said that the John M. Chu-directed film would aim to start production in spring 2017; Miranda may end up with a role in the film, as well.
