In 2004, Joanna Newsom, Devendra Banhart, and Vetiver went on tour together. Currituck Co. frontman Kevin Barker (also a member of Vetiver) made a documentary film about that tour, as well as the greater freak-folk scene of the mid-00s, called The Family Jams. The film also featured Antony and the Johnsons, Linda Perhacs, Espers, Meg Baird, and Newsom’s old band the Pleased.
Now, the movie is getting a deluxe DVD release that includes a 52-page booklet featuring writing from Newsom, Banhart, Barker, and Vetiver’s Andy Cabic, plus previously unpublished photos. It’ll be released on April 21 via Factory 25. Below, you can check out a trailer.
