Jose Gonzalez Covers Arthur Russell's "This Is How We Walk on the Moon"

For an upcoming benefit compilation, the HIV/AIDS awareness organization Red Hot has commissioned artists from across the spectrum to cover cult icon Arthur Russell. Following covers by Robyn, Hot Chip, and Sufjan Stevens, today Red Hot has shared the opening track, by José González. He covered “This Is How We Walk on the Moon”, which appeared on 1994′s posthumous Another Thought. Listen below via T magazine.

In the liner notes, González elaborated on his contribution (via T): “It was one of those songs that I’d heard but didn’t pay that much attention to before, but once I started listening with the cover in mind it really grew on me. I began to hear the potential in the simplicity.”

Master Mix: Red Hot + Arthur Russell is out October 21 and also features Blood Orange, Cults, Phosphorescent, Arcade Fire’s Richard Reed Parry, Scissor Sisters, Neon Indian’s Alan Palomo under his VEGA INTL moniker, and more.
