Julian Casablancas Files Patent for Pedal-Free Electric Folding Bicycle

Between his roles in Strokes and the VoidzJulian Casablancas keeps busy – and now, he can add “inventor” to his resumé.

As pointed out in a Reddit thread (and subsequently reported by SPIN), Casablancas filed a patent for an electric folding bicycle in September 2012, which was published in March 2014. (Last October, he told Rolling Stone that the invention was still in progress.)

Along with Casablancas, Warren Fu, who has directed videos for Casablancas, the Strokes, Daft Punk, and more, and former Strokes tour manager Richard Priest are listed as the patent’s inventors. It’s powered by a rechargeable battery, doesn’t have pedals, and can fold down to a compact size.

Read the whole patent here, complete with drawings of plans of what the bike will look like.
